JAMES ORR 1931 - 2019

James Orr was born in Glasgow and latterly lived in Ayrshire. He studied part time at Glasgow School of Art and painted and exhibited for many years while working full time as a sales rep. His job took him all over Scotland, providing constant material for his paintings.

James exhibited regularly in the annual RSA and RGI exhibitions and his work is held in a number of collections, notably in the personal collection of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. He was also a regular exhibitor in a number of London galleries where the colour and vigour of his work were seen to mark him out as a distinctively Scottish artist.

He painted in acrylic which ideally suited his style. His paintings are always bold and full of light and colour - they are joyful paintings which celebrate the simple pleasures of life.
