A joke and political cartoonist, caricaturist, illustrator and painter, Edward Hynes was born in Burren, Co. Clare and brought up in Nottingham. He is perhaps best-known for his colour caricature covers for Men Only ( 1937-1956). Hynes also contributed to the Daily Sketch, Evening News, Sunday Expressand drew theatrical caricatures for the Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News. He designed advertisements for Guinness, Player’s Tobacco, Wright’s Coal Tar Shaving Cream, Mex petrol, J Lyons and others.
