Arthur Ferrier was a joke cartoonist, caricaturist, illustrator and painter – he was born in Glasgow, where he first studied to become an analytical chemist, sending cartoons to the local newspapers.   In 1919 he moved to London working on a part-time basis for the Sunday Pictorial, the News of the World and the Daily Sketch  Arthur Ferrier was best known for his pin-up oictures and cartoons featuring leggy blondes – his work was very popular with the troops in World War II. In addition he worked in advertising producing magazine covers and fashion plates, as well as painting portraits in oils of society figures and stage stars.
