Born in Ireland in 1916, Turner was a visual artist who specialised in figures, portraits and landscape art. He won a scholarship to the Slade School of Art in London in 1938, before teaching at the Technical and High Schools in Coleraine, Ulster. His peers included George Campbell, Gerard Dillon and Daniel O'Neill. He became a regular contributor to the exhibitions of the Royal Ulster Academy, and eventually was elected a full member in 1975.
