Jan Gay RBSA
Jan creates a very personal response to her surroundings, whether landscapes or still life. Mark making is bold, reflecting her passion for painting and love of strong tonal values and colour. Her desire to look beyond the superficial, simplifying shape and exploring abstract elements brings a quality to her work which goes beyond realism.
Having studied Fine Art and Ceramics in Sussex and later in Birmingham during the early ‘90s, Jan developed her career dovetailing her personal work alongside teaching adults in the community, latterly in Lifelong Learning at Warwick University. She has always shared her enthusiasm for art, not least of all when she co-led an Arts Council Project with the elderly demonstrating the need for creativity in life, for which she received a Joint Creative Arts Award in the Solihull Civic Honours in 2015.
Jan has exhibited in London and galleries throughout the UK. In 2008, she was elected a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
