A portrait painter, designer, illustrator and watercolourist, Raphael Kirchner exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français. He is, however, best known for work published in several Parisien magazines, and particularly in La Vie Parisienne. Raphael Kirchner was, arguably, the first and best-known of the artists who portrayed the female form in what may be called “glamorous” situations – his cards adorned many a trench during World War I.
