Born in the “steel city” of Sheffield in 1929, Trevor studied at Sheffield College of Art before being offered places at both the Slade and the Royal College of Art.    

Choosing the latter, his interest in metal as a sculptural medium was aroused and his first commissioned pieces of animals and birds were produced.    A love of flight in any form was fostered, and an interest in birds in particular.

A search for chromatic effects which blended approximately with legitimate metal working techniques lead him to a comprehensive and wide-ranging study of numerous craft skills, resulting in his book Direct Metal Sculpture.    

Each piece of wrought work is preceded by exhaustive and measured drawings.    Steel is used in combination with other alloys and noble metals to produce an effect which is both individual and unique.    Because of the physical properties of steel, many to the sculptures could not have been produced in any other way.    The polychromatic effect is specially lacquered to preserve the colour.

Trevor Faulkner was elected a Fellow of rthe Ropyal Society of British Sculptors in 1975.
