Trevor Craggs’s ceramic sculpture has remained figure-based since studying Fine Art & Design at university. Study of the athletic human form, either in dance or as an abstracted torso, has remained a fascination. The approach is always to abstract the essential essence of the form and this has remained central to his observations. His work has matured over the 20 years since university, giving credibility to a substantial body of work

Sometimes his figures are built up in wax and then transferred into ceramic, a technique learned while producing lost wax casting bronze sculptures. Other work is built up directly into a special clay body. Trevor Craggs has adapted different mediums to suit the different forms, which are fired in ways to create the finished effect most suited to each particular piece.

 

After much experimentation, Trevor has discovered the critical combination of glaze minerals, temperature and firing times capable of growing crystals in glaze, producing his most recent, unique sculptures.
