Mark Demsteader

Mark Demsteader was born in 1963 in Manchester where he still lives and works.   He studied at Rochdale College and Oldham College before taking up a postgraduate position at the Slade School of Art in London.

In a long and varied career his drawings have won several awards including the Lyceum Prize and the Sidney Andrews Scholarship.

In recent years Mark Demsteader's reputation has flourished, such that he has become one of the most popular figurative artists working in Britain today.   His powerful depictions of the female form in clean assured lines of charcoal and gouache have sparked a renaissance of interest in traditional life drawing amongst the art collecting fraternity.   In a contemporary art market seemingly obsessed with conceptual art, Mark’s work is a timely antidote.

Mark Demsteader's original works are held at Broadway Modern.  A selection of prints of his works currently available at Broadway Editions consists of: “Suzanne 1, small study”, “Suzanne 2, small study”, “Suzanne 2, large study”, “Vicki 1” and “Emma 3”.
