Ricardo Cejudo Nogales was born in 1952 in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), Spain, an area of mines, open fields and flats broken up by the beginnings of the Sierra Morena mountain range.
The first years of his childhood were spent in this area until his family moved to Valencia, where his interest in art gradually matured.
Largely self-taught, Cejudo Nogales has carefully studied the techniques of the Masters and it is from this firm basis that his paintings grow.
Fernando Ponce, who has written a booklet (in both Spanish and English) about Cejudo Nogales, says of the artist that he "seems to take no notice of technical suppositions when he is in fact a rigorous observer of them .. true to himself, honest and congruent with his possibilities and objectives, he has allowed himself to be guided by that internal voice which has always identified those who feel art as a magnet-like flame.
When he paints, Cejudo Nogales is freed from all types of external strictures.
His painting is centered on the achievement of beauty".
His subjects are taken from everyday life: landscapes and figures transfused with the Mediterranean light, still-lifes, portraits and interiors, all reflecting his immediate surroundings and captured by his warm and resonant palette.
Nogales’ paintings are however seemingly timeless and have a quality about them that transcends that reality that he so accurately portrays.
Cejudo Nogales won several important prizes for his paintings in Spain during the 1970's and his first one-man exhibition was held in Madrid in 1981 at the Sala Alcon.
Many exhibitions of his work have been held in Spain since that date and he has become increasingly recognised in his home country as well as abroad and especially in the United Kingdom.
Sell-out solo shows have been held in Broadway in recent years.
