Born in Chester in 1774, Daniel Clowes would appear to have spent all his life there, and most of his work was painted for patrons around this area, including the Egertons of Oulton Park, the Stanleys of Hooton Hall, the Vaughans at Nannua and the Grosvenors at Eaton Hall.
Daniel Clowes is best known for his paintings of equestrian subjects, such as The Earl Fitzwilliam’s Hunt, painted in 1824.
In September 1798, Daniel Clowes married Maria Beckett, and two of their three children later became artists. Daniel died on March 13th 1829 at
