Ian Layton was born in Mexborough in 1953, and expressed an interest in painting from an early age.
Growing success as an Artist allowed Ian to fulfil his desire to paint on his own terms. Painting daily, dividing time between his studio and locations throughout the UK and abroad.
Ian Layton's paintings are a celebration of light and atmosphere, he particularly enjoys capturing the transient aspects of weather and the 'coutre joud' effect of painting directly into the light.
He has displayed his work at many prestigious exhibitions including: The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The New English Art Club, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Royal Society of British Artist and TheDiscerning Eye.
In 2004 he was awarded 'The Discerning Eye' Chairmans Purchase Prize.
Ian's work is held in both public and private collections.
