David Eustace was born in Birmingham in 1950, it was during his school years that his obvious artist talent was realised, David’s art teachers encouraged his talent and to follow an artist career. However, due to financial constraints David was forced to take up a carpentry apprenticeship.
It was not until Eustace was 21 that he was able to return to education.
David completed an Art Foundation Course at Sutton Coldfield School of Art, Birmingham, followed by a degree course in Fine Arts at Exeter Collage of Art and then went on to Leicester Polytechnic to train as a teacher. David spent six years living and working in the USA as a muralist after completing his training.
David Eustace returned to the UK in 1986.
Since returning David has divided his time between being a professional musician (for twenty-five years he was a drummer in a blues band called ‘Junkyard Angels’ and he now plays in a jazz quartet called ‘Shufflebones’), and his painting.
David believes that he is firmly rooted in the tradition of figurative painting, he is able to use images that hover between the conscious and subconscious states, often producing a heady cocktail of mysticism and witticism. David Eustace states 'Dreaming deep could be the title for all my paintings. I don't plan them anymore than you would a dream. I paint to be surprised. At its best it is like a conjuring trick, making the unseen like a Whale seen’.
David Eustace’s work has been exhibited throughout the UK; his very successful solo exhibitions include the Royal Albert Museum Art Gallery, Exeter, Highgate Gallery, and the Rona Gallery, London.
David has also won a number of awards including membership of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2003 and in the same year became winner of the RBA David Wolfers Memorial Prize.
