He studied art under Sir Charles Holmes and then Sickert, worked in South Africa from1910 to1914, and served in France in the Scots Guards in the 1914-18 War. Lord Methuen was elected a member of the RBA in 1939, NEAC 1943, ARWS 1944, ARA 1951, RWS 1952, and RA 1959. His work is represented in many public collections.
