Charles Whymper RI
A painter mainly in watercolour of animals, birds, landscapes and angling themes, Charles Whymper was the son of Josiah Wood Whymper. An extensive traveller, he exhibited at the RA from 1882, and also exhibited at the NWS, SS, GG amongst others. He also provided illustrations for books on travel, sport and natural history, and published Egyptian Birds as well as several papers on the Pheasantry of England, Bird Life and others.
In 1922 the Connoisseur commented on his bird studies at the RI 'Mr. Whymper's relies on almost scientific presentment, correct to the last detail, of the feathered creatures he chooses to depict.'
