In the 1990's Georgie Welch studied art & design at Bournville before transferring to a purely sculptural course, also spending a valuable period working under an established equine sculptor. From 1996 onwards she has worked solely as a figurative sculptor specialising in equine and canine subject matter.
Georgie Welch says of her work - "Sculpting the equestrian and canine form has been my focus for the last fifteen years. Where possible I prefer to sculpt directly from life, and I aim to highlight the natural qualities of the chosen animal. By tuning in to these qualities I am able to identify the spirit of the character in question. All of my work is cast in the 'lost-wax' technique. Editions are small, ranging from unique to a run of no more than twenty one."
