GERRY PLUMB

Gerry Plumb was born and brought up in London.  Gerry began education at the Hornsey School of Art.   At the age of 18 he moved on to the Shrewsbury School of Art, where he studied painting and printing and qualified as a lithographer.

Keen to employ his artistic skills professionally, Gerry Plumb embarked on a career as a Press Artist specialising in illustration and graphic design.   After some years, he decided to return to London to pursue a hugely successful career in the high-powered world of advertising.   Working for three of the world’s largest and most prestigious advertising agencies, Gerry handled illustration work for many high profile and fashion conscious international accounts.

While enjoying his glamorous London lifestyle, however, Gerry continued to paint for his own pleasure and fostered a secret yearning to settle down in a tranquil spot and become a full-time artist.   Gerry was therefore delighted when an opportunity arrived to move with his wife Ella (a ceramic artist) to Cornwall.   Having always had a great interest in the sea and its history, he was delighted to be presented daily with the inspiration of Cornwall’s charming fishing villages, visiting ships and unique seascapes.

Living in a 17th century watermill, Gerry Plumb is relishing he newfound freedom, and finding himself able to paint daily.   His distinctive acrylics conjure the atmosphere of an English fishing port beautifully, with narrow white cottages jostling for space on the harbour’s edge, brightly painted boats resting serenely on the sand, and intriguing cobbled streets reflecting the afternoon sunlight.
