| The son of a schoolmaster at Eton, Finch Mason (as he was always called) attended the school himself between 1860 and 1864 and a number of his works feature Eton. He was a caricaturist and illustrator who contributed to many of the sporting publications of the day. He was also a contributor to Punch. His work is light, humorous and pleasing and he had a better use of colour than many caricaturists. His style was not dissimilar to that of Leech. George Finch Mason was also a journalist and in this vein also contributed to various sporting publications. He wrote a book called Sporting Recollections, published by Fores, in which he recounted many sporting tales of his past. |
