Tim Hayward lives in the southwest of England, near Bampton in Devon, with his wife and three daughters.
Born in 1952, Tim grew up in the countryside and was always fascinated by nature, and especially birds, for as long as he can remember. He became interested in the diversity of styles in wildlife illustration and painting through looking at the work of such artists as Thorburn and Tunnicliffe in the many books he was given or collected, and soon started sketching and painting himself. After studying Illustration and Design, he initially worked as a studio-artist in London and Oxford, before embarking on a successful career as a freelance wildlife illustrator. Over the next twenty-five years Tim Hayward was commissioned by national and international publishers through his London-based agent, and contributed to many field-guides and natural-history publications, mainly as a wildlife and habitat illustrator. He also worked in the United States on a series of wildlife books for a Californian publisher.
Having always wanted to paint subjects of his own choice, he is now concentrating on painting for exhibition and commission. The farmland and woods around his studio are the source of plenty of inspiration for his paintings, and field trips take him from the combes, rivers and hills of nearby Exmoor, to the dramatic coastline of Cornwall, and to the Highlands of Scotland.
He has so far held two successful one-man shows at Jonathan Cooper’s Park Walk Gallery, Chelsea, and London; and is currently working towards the next. Tim Hayward's original paintings are widely collected. |
