| Tom Greenshields was born in 1915, the grandson of the Victorian painter Edouard van Goethem. He was educated at Sherborne School in Dorset and went on to study at the Slade School. After leaving the Slade he painted, mainly in watercolours, and illustrated books, exhibiting at the Royal Academy. After serving as an officer in the Army in the 2nd World War Tom Greenshields returned to England to take over the family farm and had little time for his art until his son took over the farm in 1980. Despite losing the use of his right hand in an accident in 1981 Greenshields devoted the rest of his life to painting and sculpture. He has had many exhibitions, and his sculpture is exhibited in art galleries world-wide. All his sculptures are modelled from life with working sketches and drawings, some of which have been reproduced as signed, limited edition prints. |
