Chris Buck was born in 1956, the son of a toolmaker. He studied at Redruth School of Art and then, going back to his industrial roots, he worked in several foundries which gave him a thorough knowledge of casting techniques and general metal and woodwork. He has been inspired by the St Ives abstract artists, predominantly Dame Barbara Hepworth and Dennis Mitchell, and has joined the Penwith Society of Arts himself.

Chris Buck works from his sculpture studio in a converted byre, overlooking fields and hedgerows, and this closeness to his surroundings brings a feeling of harmony with the natural world to his sculptural art.  Producing sculpture in both wood and stone, it is with bronze that he finds greatest satisfaction, combining natural forms and industrial precision to achieve individual pieces. With this as his ongoing theme, Chris has been concentrating recently on flowing forms and features defined by texture and polished surfaces.

Chris Buck has sculpture in collections throughout the UK and in Canada, Kuwait and the USA.
