GEORGE ARMFIELD SMITH

FL. 1836-1839

 

Painter of animals, landscape, dead game, birds, and other wild animals.   George Armfield Smith exhibited five pictures at the Royal Academy, including “Fox Prowling” and “Portraits of Horses & Dogs”, two works at the BI and one work at SS.   He is recorded as living at a London address. In 1840 he changed his name to George Armfield, and went on to become especially well-known for his paintings of dogs chasing birds, cats or mice.
